English as a lingua franca

In this Programme, we adopt the current definition of English as a lingua franca (ELF) as the preferred language of communication among people who do not share a common linguistic or cultural background. The Programme does not focus on linguistic, pragmatic or sociolinguistic issues related to ELF but, rather, on the pedagogical implications arising from the role of this language as a global lingua franca.
